How long does a sewer line repair take?

Most sewer line repairs take one to two days of work when done trenchless, with pipe lining or pipe bursting. A traditional dig-and-replace usually takes three days or more. The repair method, the length and depth of the line, and whether concrete or a slab sits on top decide where your job lands.

Repair methodTypical work time
Spot repair of one sectionA few hours to one day
Full line pipe liningOften one day
Pipe burstingOne to two days
Dig and replaceThree days or more, plus restoration

Work time is not the whole calendar. Any job that digs, even the small pits used for pipe bursting or lining, must wait for Texas 811 utility locates, which state law requires at least two business days before excavation. Permits and city inspections can add more time. A full dig and replace can also need city permits and street access.

Your drains are usually out of use for hours, not days. A lining liner cures in hours, and the time depends on pipe size and liner thickness.

The honest limit: nobody can promise a timeline before seeing the pipe. A collapsed section, heavy roots or a line deep under a slab can turn a one-day lining into a partial dig. A sewer camera inspection shows which case you have, and grass over any dig pit takes weeks to look normal again.
