What Is Hydro Jetting

The Most Effective Way to Clean Drain & Sewer Pipes

Hydro jetting is a professional drain and sewer cleaning method that uses a high-pressure water stream (3,000–4,000 PSI for residential, up to 10,000 PSI for commercial) to scour the entire interior of a pipe. A specialized nozzle with forward and rear-facing jets is inserted into the pipe, blasting water in multiple directions to cut through grease, shred tree roots, dissolve mineral scale, and flush debris downstream.

Unlike a drain snake (auger) which only punches a hole through a clog, hydro jetting cleans the full circumference of the pipe removing buildup from the walls and restoring flow capacity to near-original condition.

Nuflow DFW performs a camera inspection before every hydro jetting service to check the pipe’s structural condition and determine the safest pressure setting. After jetting, we run the camera again so you see the before-and-after results on screen.

For pipes with damage revealed during inspection, we recommend trenchless CIPP pipe relining instead of or after jetting to seal cracks and prevent future root intrusion.

How Hydro Jetting Works — 4 Steps

Camera-first approach protects your pipes. You see results before and after.
Number 1 Icon

Camera Inspection

HD camera checks pipe condition, identifies blockage type, and confirms it's safe to jet. Protects old or damaged pipes.

Number 2 Icon

High-Pressure Jetting

Specialized nozzle blasts water at 3,000–4,000 PSI in all directions. Cuts through grease, roots, scale, and debris. Everything flushes downstream.

Number 3 Icon

Post-Jetting Verification

Camera runs again to confirm the pipe is fully clear. You see side-by-side before-and-after on screen. Any hidden damage is documented.

Maintenance Plan

Based on findings, we recommend a jetting schedule. If damage is found, we provide CIPP relining options.

Common Situations That Call for Hydro Jetting

If your drains keep clogging every few weeks despite snaking, call for hydro jetting the buildup on your pipe walls is the real problem. If multiple drains in your house are slow at the same time, get your main sewer line jetted from the cleanout.

If you’ve been told you have tree roots in your sewer line, schedule jetting with root-cutting nozzles and ask about CIPP relining to seal the entry points permanently. If you own a restaurant or commercial kitchen, set up quarterly jetting before grease causes a backup during service.

If you’re planning pipe relining, book jetting first it’s a required prep step. And if your home has cast iron or clay pipes and you haven’t had them cleaned in years, schedule annual jetting before a small buildup becomes an emergency.

What is hydro jetting?

Hydro jetting is a professional plumbing method that uses a high-pressure water stream (typically 3,000–4,000 PSI for residential, up to 10,000 PSI for commercial) to clean the inside of drain and sewer pipes. A specialized nozzle with forward and rear-facing jets is inserted into the pipe, blasting water in multiple directions to remove grease, tree roots, mineral scale, soap buildup, and other debris. Unlike snaking, which only pokes a hole through a clog, hydro jetting cleans the entire pipe interior to near-original condition.

Hydro jetting costs in Dallas–Fort Worth typically range starts from $350 for residential services. A standard residential sewer line cleaning runs $350–$600. More complex jobs long runs, heavy root intrusion, or commercial properties range from $600–$900+. The price depends on pipe diameter, length, severity of the blockage, and accessibility. Nuflow DFW includes a camera inspection before jetting to assess pipe condition and after jetting to confirm results both included in the service cost.

Hydro jetting is safe for most pipe types when performed by a licensed plumber who adjusts the water pressure for the pipe material. PVC, ABS, and newer cast iron handle standard jetting pressure well. Older, deteriorated pipes — severely corroded cast iron, collapsed clay, or pipes with existing cracks — may not be suitable for full-pressure jetting. This is why Nuflow DFW always performs a camera inspection before hydro jetting. If the camera reveals pipe damage, we recommend repair or relining instead.
Hydro jetting provides a much more thorough cleaning than snaking. A drain snake punches a hole through a clog but leaves residue on pipe walls, meaning clogs return faster — often within months. Hydro jetting cleans the entire pipe circumference, removing grease, roots, and scale completely. For recurring clogs, grease buildup, or root intrusion, hydro jetting is significantly more effective. Snaking is better for simple, one-time clogs near a fixture — it’s faster and cheaper ($150–$300) but doesn’t address the underlying buildup.
Hydro jetting can damage pipes that are already severely deteriorated — heavily corroded cast iron, cracked clay, or pipes with existing joint separations. The high-pressure water can widen existing cracks or blow through weakened walls. A professional plumber mitigates this by performing a camera inspection first. If the pipe is in poor condition, repair or relining is recommended rather than jetting. On healthy pipes, hydro jetting is completely safe.
Yes. Hydro jetting is one of the most effective methods for clearing tree root intrusion from sewer lines. Specialized root-cutting nozzles shred roots that have entered through pipe joints or cracks. For recurring root problems, Nuflow DFW recommends hydro jetting followed by CIPP pipe relining to seal the entry points permanently and prevent roots from returning.
Results typically last 1–3 years for residential properties, depending on the cause of buildup. Heavy grease use may need annual jetting. Properties with tree root intrusion may need jetting every 1–2 years unless the pipe is relined. Normal residential sewer lines without major root or grease issues can go 2–3 years between services. Nuflow DFW recommends annual camera inspections to monitor buildup and schedule jetting only when needed.
Most residential hydro jetting services take 1–2 hours, including camera inspection before and after. Simple blockages may clear in 45 minutes. Heavy root intrusion or long sewer runs (100+ feet) may take 2–3 hours. Commercial jobs with larger pipes may take half a day. Nuflow DFW provides a time estimate before starting based on what the camera reveals.
